I did! It took about a year of looking but…I found a great place to work. A great group of people to work with! A fabulous workplace culture that was actually “people first” in practice. One month into my new role as Senior Manager, Talent Development at NBCUniversal – Universal Studios Hollywood, COVID-19 happened and we were sent to work from home.
My team and L&OD business partners pivoted quickly to transition from a traditional classroom style learning framework to innovative content and resources to support working from home, using Microsoft Teams to stay hyper-connected, creating and hosting one hour webinars and Lunch & Learns that were strategically created to engage our professional team members around our competencies, vision, and values. Creating bi-weekly professional development content shared in partnership with Communications to all USH professional staff.
We adopted learning platforms and quickly implemented eLearning solutions/strategies into the business for compliance, developmental, and orientation/on-boarding programs. We spent five months being highly productive and crazy busy as we moved the department from the 20th century into the 21st within three weeks and created a comprehensive reopening training program for the team members when we are ready to welcome them back.
On July 27th we all learned that with no opening date in sight – we were being furloughed. On August 7th our Learning & Organizational Development Team had a final Cocktail Hour – virtually – to say goodbye until we meet again.
In The Meantime…
This last week has been busy! As the sole parent of two boys who start school next week; picking up books, attending virtual orientations, spending hours on virtual “Coffee with the Superintendent & Principals” – has been the focus.
Today I had an opportunity to sit and take a breath and started to get a little anxious. There is no reopening date in sight. I am compelled, as a parent/provideer and someone who enjoys working, innovating, creating to work and earn a consistent income for my family.
So, Now What?!
I am officially available for consulting projects, once again. I know that most organizations were impacted by the disruption caused by COVID-19 so my usual rates are definitely flexible. Over the last six years, I have consulted in the following areas:
- Content creation – primary
- In Person & Virtual Facilitation – primary
- Instructional Design – secondary
- Strategy | Strategic Recalibration
- Start-Up Human Resources Support
- Zhuzhing up existing L&D programs for elevated engagement
- Revising Personnel Handbooks [converting to an online and engaging resource/tool]
- Blog writing to support your organization’s initiatives
Industries I have supported include: Retail, Restaurant, Hospitality, Direct Selling, Wholesale, Venture Capital Retail Acquisitions, Education Management.
I am set up – excellently – to work remotely in any time zone world-wide.
Open To Permanent Roles
Again, I love my job and I love my colleagues and the atmosphere – but with an uncertain professional future and a terrifying political and social climate here in the US, I decided to make myself open to permanent roles outside of the United States [sponsorship required]. The following areas would definitely be of interest:
- Dublin, Ireland
